January Comfort Food

January is often a cold, dark month and one way to make us feel better is to turn to comfort food

That warm, satisfying feeling of eating something delicious. Comfort food is sometimes associated with treats such as chocolate or other foods that are high in fat or sugar and while that is sometimes the case, comfort food doesn’t have to be unhealthy.

Comfort food can evoke memories and feelings of nostalgia – tastes and smells of our favourite childhood dishes can be quite powerful.

Just recently, a Dairy Diary fan asked if we could find the recipes for Bonfire Soup and Cowboy Pie and described them as her grown-up son’s ultimate comfort foods.

We found them in the 1988 and 1995 Dairy Diaries!

This particular dairy diary fan was putting together a set of recipes to hand down to her sons so they will be able to carry on creating their Mum’s special recipes! She also suggested that we post some retro Dairy Diary recipes on our social media to keep them alive! What great ideas!

Our own Managing Editor made a folder of her stepdaughter Leah’s favourite recipes using a Dairy Diary Recipe File (packaged with a handy soup-maker) when she went off to uni.

This handy file, which comes with dividers and stickers, will store all your favourite Dairy Diary recipes (and others if you like) in sections of your choice.
